PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Greenheart® becomes licensed to propagate roses for Jackson & Perkins, De Ruiter's, and Weeks Roses

Greenheart has added Jackson & Perkins, De Ruiter's, and Weeks Roses to the list of roses they are licensed to propagate. The Jackson & Perkins license offers a new rose ground cover variety exclusively to Greenheart.

ARROYO GRANDE, California - May 1, 2003 - Greenheart Farms, Inc. is finalizing an exclusive license with Jackson & Perkins for 'ground cover' varieties which include Electric Blanket, Footloose, Magic Blanket, Snow Shower, and Sun Runner. Additional varieties of hybrid teas, floribundas, shrubs, and ground cover will be trialed and the top ten own root varieties will be selected for propagation.

De Ruiter's New Roses International B.V. from The Netherlands has granted a license to Greenheart to propagate, grow, and finish pot roses. Over 20 varieties will be grown as trials in order to determine the best six to ten varieties to be included in a scheme with a full color palette. De Ruiter's roses include OvationTM, a miniature rose with big flowers, Cupido®, a miniature for pot rose production, and TerrazzaTM, a container rose for bedding and perennial growers.

Greenheart has been licensed to propagate over 50 varieties of Weeks Roses varieties since February 2003. Currently, two varieties, Rockin' RobinTM and Fourth of JulyTM, an AARS winner in 1999, are available; however, at least ten varieties will be available after trials.

Greenheart is also licensed by Conard-Pyle and COPF, the Canadian Ornamental Plant Foundation. Additionally, Greenheart grows for licensees of Flower Carpet®, Poulsen Roses ApS, and David Austin® Roses Limited. Bill De Vor, Rose Grower at Greenheart states, "We are aggressively searching for new varieties and evaluating old varieties to see if they fit our program." Greenheart serves as a quarantine facility for receiving new varieties from other countries. They are working with PlantHaven, Inc. who is associated with seven independent breeder agencies with offices in Europe, South Africa, Australia, and Japan. Management systems have been developed so that a plant may enter in any one country and be eligible for trials and eventual coordinated protection, promotion and sales around the world.

In order to support these new varieties, Greenheart is currently constructing a state-of-the-art greenhouse range. Structures, systems, methods, and experience have led management to make very educated decisions on exactly what they want to achieve in this new rose factory. Hot water heat, HID lighting, shade systems, rolling benches, mowing systems and computer controlled environment will play a part in the rose propagation facility. All of these improvements will allow Greenheart to produce a quality rose liner consistently and predictably.

Incorporated in 1979, Greenheart has grown to become a leading wholesale propagation nursery, propagating in excess of one billion plants each year. The own root rose liner program was initiated in 1999 and includes varieties suited for garden, landscape and pot rose production. The rose liners are grown to order in various sizes from clean mother stock.
